The Inauguration of West Ruwenzori Diocese: A New Era for Bundibugyo

Rev. Barnabas Tibaijuka. The event took place at the St. Barnabas Cathedral in Bumadu and marked a significant milestone for the Church of Uganda.

A Day of Celebration and Unity

The consecration service was led by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, who emphasized the importance of unity and support within the diocese. Hon. Col. Tom Butiime, the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the Chief Guest, highlighting the government’s recognition of the diocese’s role in fostering community development and spiritual growth.

During the ceremony, Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu assured Bishop Tibaijuka of the church’s prayers and support in his new mission. The Archbishop’s message underscored the collaborative spirit needed to address the challenges and opportunities facing the new diocese.

Bishop Tibaijuka’s Vision

Bishop Barnabas Tibaijuka, now at the helm of the West Ruwenzori Diocese, called upon Christians and clergy to embrace patriotism and hard work. His appeal was made during a visit to All Saints Parish Church in Bundibugyo town, where he confirmed 84 new members into the Christian faith. This visit marked the beginning of his pastoral tour, set to conclude on February 4, 2024.

In his address, Bishop Tibaijuka emphasized the importance of unity and collective effort in achieving the diocese’s goals. He highlighted the need for dedication and hard work among Christians to fulfill the set programs and plans aimed at developing both the diocese and Uganda as a whole.

Community and Political Support

The establishment of the West Ruwenzori Diocese has received significant support from local politicians and community leaders. Hon. Richard Gafabusa Muhumuza, Member of Parliament for Bwamba County, pledged political backing to ensure the diocese meets its objectives. This support reflects a broader recognition of the diocese’s potential to contribute to the social and economic development of the region.

Rev. Michael Bakasoma, the Vicar of All Saints Parish, expressed the honor of hosting Bishop Tibaijuka’s inaugural pastoral visit. The occasion was a moment of pride and celebration for the parish, as the community witnessed the confirmation of new members and embraced the leadership of their first bishop.
